Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the most important of all phospholipids. It makes up the highest concentration of the cell membrane at about 50%. Essential to the function of the membranes of all cells PC helps add strength and fluidity to the cell membrane, both vital to the health of every cell. PC serves as a source of choline, an essential nutrient for liver function and a precursor to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter which is critical to normal, healthy brain and nerve function. PC also helps contribute to the synthesis of sphingomyelin, the fatty insulation that protects nerve cells and helps propagate nerve signals through the nervous system.
